The narrator says "Thus we have revealed the long-standing mystery of what Anomalocaris was really like. At up to 60 centimeters long, it was the largest Cambrian animal. It had 14 pairs of lateral fins. The most unusual feature was the ring-shaped mouth. It is thought to have been a predator, using the mouth to grab prey. By the way, we have also calculated its swimming ability. 14 pairs of small overlapping fins were also counted as its peculiar features....".

Hello! First I NEED to say, your blog is pure bliss. Second, I'm going to start studying biology this month, and I was thinking if you had any advice or bits of wisdom you could share. I'm going to have to choose what to specialize myself in, in the future, and right now I just think I like way too many things. I'd love to work "on the field" but I also regard the lab with wonder. Working somewhere like NatGeo would be OMGOMG for me but I don't even know how that would work? wrote2muchthanksbye*

I would say just read as much as you can, follow your whims in this, and follow any internship or volunteer opportunities that come along. At this stage, you have time to decide. It’s okay if you aren’t exactly sure where you wanna go in biology. I would say try over the next few years to do lab AND field work, if you can.
I haven't read Wonderful Life, but it's high on my to-read list.
It really is worth the time. Its a magnificent book. I find that Gould’s writings about evolution are really quite elucidating and engrossing. If you get the chance, even his collections of essays are great.
Have you ever read Wonderful Life by Stephen Jay Gould? I thought it really brought the Burgess Shale to life (although I have to agree with Dawkin's point that Gould fell prey to his own paradigm theory). It tells the complete story of the discovery and classification of the Shale and its incredible inhabitants.

there is a whole doc about Anomalocaris in english that includesdiscussion about the japanese researchers who built that model and stuff it is cool
