What is this blog all about?

If it isn’t already obvious… the primary focus is animals and zoology and conservation, but I post a lot from other fields of biology and science. I have a deep interest in fungi, botany, conservation, space science, and physics, as well. You will also see some politics, music, art, and the occassional naked guy on here as well (so take off if you can’t deal with that).

I am not here to post pics of cute or domestic animals. Please don’t ask for goats or doggies or pet pics. Also, I most likely don;t have time to fill requests.

What do you Do for a living? Are you a zoologist?

I work as a Naturalist at a little nature center in a park in Houston, TX. My degree is in General Biology, but much of my field work experience is in Zoology. I’ve worked as a biology teacher, interpretive naturalist, and biologist at zoos, nature centers, and various wildlife refuges/sanctuaries.

What kind of animals have you worked with?

I have field experience with reptile and amphibian surveys, amphibian call count monitoring, bird point counts, bird nest box surveys, Piping Plover monitoring, American Woodcocks, Whip-poor-wills, Blue Birds, Prothonotary Warblers, Loggerhead Sea Turtle nesting and injury surveys, deer surveys, small mammal surveys, insect surveys, as well as various botany and restoration ecology projects.  I’ve volunteered with organizations where I’ve helped rehabilitate owls and take care of a wide variety of captive animals.

What are your favorite animals?

I’ll try a short version… sea pigs, Vampire Squid, cephalopods, tardigrades, velvet worms, isopods, gastropods, felids, Pallas’s Cat :3, Red Panda, Binturong, Fossa, Coati, Procyonids, bee eaters, hornbills, Abyssinian Ground Hornbills, owls, lamine camelids, prehistoric mammals, therapsids, ceratopsians, MOTHS!, insects, birds, spiders, arachnids, centipedes, oh gosh…

Other interests?

Star Wars, Miyazaki films, asian food, attractive boys, books, more musics than you can shake a very large stick at, the out of doors, queer stuff, situationist/anarchist/post modern philosophy, and fruit.
