Eastern Box Turtle (Terrapene c. carolina) female, Piedmont, NC, USA
A terrestrial turtle found in the Eastern United States. It reaches a shell length of up to 7 inches. They eat a wide variety of flowers, fruits, small animals, and fungi. As a matter of fact, their habit of eating highly toxic fungi can lead to box turtles haveing highly toxic flesh (so don’t eat wild box turtles).
