Hourglass dolphin (Lagenorhynchus cruciger)

The hourglass dolphin has distinct black-and-white coloring and gets its name from the white hourglass design on its sides. While larger packs have been seen, hourglass dolphins usually travel in groups of five to 15, much smaller than those of most other dolphins. Whalers always keep a keen eye out for this species in particular because they frequently travel near various types of whales. The hourglass dolphin prefers colder waters and can only be found south of the subtropical convergence.
