Spotted Shovelnose Frog (Hemisus guttatus), South Africa
* THIS… motherfucker… right here. Unlike most groups of burrowing frogs, the “shovelnose” or “snout burrowers”, genus Hemisus, will bury themselves face first into the soil. Mating occurs, and eggs are kept in a moist chamber underground. The female guards them until the tadpoles hatch, and then digs a tunnel to a nearby water body for the tadpoles to live in.
