America’s Endangered Species:  Hellbenders (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis)
Ozark Hellbenders are one of the largest salamander species in the world, and is the largest in the Americas,  - but their numbers have dwindled so rapidly that the US Fish and  Wildlife Service has found them to be in serious danger of extinction, due to habitat loss and degradation.  It’s currently a candidate for listing under Endangered Species Act.
